Doncaster defeated Deeside Ramblers 6-5 in a topsy-turvy clash - their third straight win - to go third in EHL Men’s North Conference, writes Alan Stoves.
The Town Field men went into the game in confident mood after beating the Ramblers 8-3 only a month ago.
And that confidence seemed well founded when Harry Bailey latched onto a loose ball to smash the visitors ahead after just three minutes.
However, Doncaster failed to gain a foothold and the hosts drew level in the 31st minute when former Rotherham player Ibrar Latif scored from the penalty spot after goalkeeper John Livings had upended the home striker.
A minute later Deeside were in front when Latif popped up at the far post to tap home.
Doncaster exerted pressure straight from the restart and three goals in as many minutes transformed the game.
First Andy Appleton levelled matters with a sharp reverse stick shot before slick interplay between Appleton and Joe Morrison allowed Dan Legg to score his second goal in two games. Morrison then fired home his 12th goal of the season from a penalty corner.
Deeside reduced the deficit when Ali Ghazanfar scored from a corner but the visitors’ response was instant and goals from captain Matt Gibson and Travis Cresswell appeared to have settled the contest.
However, goals from Ghazanfar and Latif left Doncaster hanging on for a hard fought victory.
