CARL Spencer enjoyed preparations of Olympic proportions ahead of his professional debut this weekend.
Earlier this summer, the Bentley heavyweight was selected as a sparring partner for Anthony Joshua, who went on to win gold for Team GB at London 2012.
Now it is Spencer’s turn to take centre stage as the 25-year-old makes his pro bout at Sheffield’s Don Valley Stadium on Saturday night.
Manager Dennis Hobson said: “It was a great experience for Carl and I’m sure it’ll do him a lot of good.
“It obviously did a lot of good for Anthony Joshua as well.
“We’re really pleased with how Carl has done so far, he’s worked really hard since he’s come to us.
“He’s packing a lot of power so he should be really exciting to watch.
“He realised quickly he needs to knuckle down and he’s done that and we’re really excited about what the future holds.
“I’m convinced the heavyweight division is there for the taking in this country.”
Spencer is being trained by Kevin Sanders, a former coach of Nigel Benn.
