Danum Eagles brushed aside Sheffield Hallam Sharks 82-65 to cruise into the second round of the National Shield.
Mathew Martin once again was the leading scorer for the Eagles with 15 points.
Paul Walsh finished with 11 and Josh Metcalf put in an impressive all-round performance with 10 points and eight assists.
Eagles coach Ross Stafford used the game as an opportunity to give valuable minutes to his whole squad and nine players were on the scoresheet in the first half to help the hosts into a commanding 40-29 lead.
A somewhat sloppy third quarter allowed the Sharks to creep back into the game as they cut the deficit to six points but the impressive play of Metcalf and Martin would see the Eagles hold a ten-point advantage heading into the final quarter.
Eagles pressed home their superiority in the final quarter, with Liam Knapp and Oliver Hylands exposing the Sharks’ tired defence.
Danum will face Gateshead Phoenix in the second round.
The Eagles tip off their league campaign this Saturday against Team Birmingham at 2pm at Danum Academy. Entry is £2 for adults and £1 for under 16s.
