Danum Eagles downed Woking Blackhawk Flyers in the first round of the national play-offs.
The Doncaster club’s 110-76 win against the South Conference side sets up another meeting with Loughborough Student Riders in the quarter-finals this weekend.
Eagles, newly-crowned Division Four (Midlands) champions, were aggressive in the first quarter with the prolific Mathew Martin and Tom Hodson scoring on the fast break.
Eagles led 30-16 after the first quarter and they maintained their tempo throughout the first half to take a comfortable lead into the locker room.
The third quarter was more even, with both teams trading baskets.
But Eagles showed more aggression in the fourth quarter and managed to pull further away from the Blackhawks, helped by another strong performance from George Colwill.
Martin led all scorers with 37, Colwill added 17, Hodson 16.
Eagles welcome league rivals Loughborough Student Riders II to Danum School on Saturday (2pm) in the next round.
The two sides finished level on points at the top of the Midlands Conference at the end of the regular season but Eagles won the league title by virtue of a better aggregate score in the two meetings between the teams.
This weekend’s game looks certain to be a close run thing for a coveted place in the last four.
Eagles won 86-80 at Loughborough in November before the Riders prevailed 73-72 in a thrilling contest at Danum School last month.
