Doncaster’s Graham Briggs finished tenth in the opening stage of the Tour of Britain.
The Rossington racer shone among a world class field of 120 riders to get his Tour off to an excellent start in Wales.
Team Sky’s Elia Viviani edged out Mark Cavendish to win the stage after a sprint finish.
JLT Condor’s Briggs was the third Brit to cross the finish line in Wrexham, ahead of Sir Bradley Wiggins, Ed Clancy and fellow Doncastrian Tom Stewart, among others.
He later tweeted: “Good day for @teamjltcondor today [Kristian House] doing the job up front and me getting top 10...tough day tomorrow #goodmorale”
Monday’s Stage Two saw the race switch to the Lancashire hills, racing from Ribble Valley to Pendle over 160-kilometres of undulating roads between Clitheroe and Colne.
