The 28-year-old finished eighth in Saturday’s road race.

“I’m pretty tired. I’m disappointed,” he said afterwards.

“We came here as a team to win. We can be proud of how we rode in the sense that we left everything out here. It didn’t work out unfortunately.

“[Ian] Bibby and myself have got Tour de Yorkshire coming up. That’s the next big target. Then we have got the Tour of Japan. We have been racing since January so I think we just need to get there and reassess really.

“We are going to spend a bit more time wrecking the stages and go for a stage win or try to get a good solid top five overall.

“We just have to see how we both come out of this trip over here. It’s a long way from home and we have got to get back still. Come back fit and healthy and see how we go.”

The Tour de Yorkshire takes place from May 3-6. Stage One, on May 3, finishes in Doncaster.
