After Cumberlidge’s strong opening split of 49.28, Proud threw the English team well into the medal mix with a storming 48.35 swim.

Commonwealth newcomer Parkinson (49.28), a former Doncaster Dartes swimmer, kept the English in the hunt before Guy (48.34) brought the team home.

Parkinson, 19, swims again in the 200m Individual Medley on Tuesday.

The former Trinity Academy pupil is reigning British champion in that discipline and also won silver at the European Games in Baku in 2015.
