CALIFORNIA DREAMIN' Gavin McDonnell gets LA date for second shot a world title

Gavin McDonnell has been handed a dream second chance at a world title and will head to the United States in October for his opportunity.

McDonnell is set to challenge WBA super bantamweight champion Daniel Roman in Los Angeles on October 20.

Roman has won 25 of his 27 fights, stopping nine early.

The Los Angeles native won the WBA title last September when stopping the unbeaten Shun Kubo in Japan.

He has since made two successful defences, including comfortably outpointing Moises Flores last month.

Hatfield fighter McDonnell valiantly came up short in his previous attempt at a world title in February 2017 when he was outpointed by Rey Vargas in Hull for the WBC title.

He has rebuilt since that defeat and impressed in his last two outings with wins over hot prospect Gamal Yafai and veteran former world champion Stuart Hall.
