Jamie McDonnell will make a high profile return to the ring on the undercard of this month’s Carl Froch and George Groves blockbuster, it has been confirmed.
As first reported in last week’s Free Press and Star, McDonnell has agreed a deal with Britain’s leading promotional stable Matchroom Sports - and will begin a fresh assault on a world title later this month.
McDonnell’s date on the Froch vs Groves undercard, at a sell-out Manchester Arena on November 23, was confirmed on Matchroom’s website this morning.
It will be the first time the Hatfield fighter has fought since he was stripped of his IBF world bantamweight title, following his famous win over Julio Ceja at the Keepmoat Stadium in May.
McDonnell lost his title after failing to sign a contract for a mandatory defence before the given deadline.
But he could not have wished for a more high profile return - with Froch and Groves’ ongoing war of words lighting the blue touch paper ahead of their mammoth WBA and IBF Super Middleweight title showdown.
The card will be screened live on Sky Sports Box Office.
