American football: Mustangs call a halt to season

INJURY hit Doncaster Mustangs were forced to forfeit last weekend’s play-off game at London Blitz.

Having sustained several injuries in the final few weeks of the season, Mustangs decided not to risk further damage to their squad against a strong Blitz outfit.

A BAFANL league statement said: “The league supports the decision of the Mustangs and, while disappointed, wish the side all the best with their offseason plans.

“The Mustangs have had a strong season, after their opening forfeit they looked unbeatable until the end of July.

“The Doncaster squad sat second for much of the season before two late losses against rivals East Kilbride and Tamworth pushed them into third.

“This will hopefully have been a learning year for the side and 2013 should bring bright things.”
