Jet Ski: Harry Rickaby follows in his brother Brad’s footsteps

Harry Rickaby is following in the footsteps of his older brother Brad after being awarded ‘Best Newcomer’ to Jet Skiing.

Harry, formerly of Hungerhill School, took up the sport only 12 months ago.

The 20-year-old has since won the British title in the Novice Class.

He has also been crowned the sport’s best newcomer, an award previously won by his older brother Brad, who has won a string of British, European and World titles.

“He’s done so well,” said Brad, of his brother Harry’s debut year. “He’s won his first British title in his first year.

“He only really started practicing 12 months ago and he’s already winning big events.

“And now he’ll be competing the next time international jet ski-ing returns to Doncaster, which I think will be next July again.”

Brad himself has enjoyed varying fortunes at Doncaster’s Lakeside home of the sport.

Having claimed a European title in front of a home crowd in 2014, he was also in the lead in the British Championships Runabout GP class ahead of July’s Lakeside event.

He then took third place in the Runabout Grand Prix at Lakeside on home soil, resulting in a second place overall finish.

“It was going really well,” said Brad, of his Runabout season.

“I’ve won pro stock for the last three years so I took part in the superstock this year.

“I was in first place and doing well until the final meeting at Lakeside where I had technical issues and ended up having to settle for second place overall.

“That was disappointing because myself and my dad have put in a lot of time and money into it.”

Rickaby has won British and European titles and became a world champion in Arizona at the age of just 18 in 2011.

Both Rickaby brothers have received sponsorship from local company Evans Halshaw Nissan in Doncaster, and are grateful for their ongoing support.
