Hockey: Wakefield 2 Doncaster 2

Doncaster’s men had to come from two goals down to rescue a 2-2 draw in their Conference North opener at Wakefield.

The Town Field club handed a National League debut to 15-year-old Daniel West, an England Under 16s prospect, as both teams sported a number of changes in personnel.

Wakefield went ahead mid-way through the first half when they won their first penalty corner and it was converted by Ross Chaplin.

The hosts then doubled their lead two minutes before half time when, following a breakaway, Ben Foster found himself in the right place at the right time to convert past a stranded Doncaster defence.

Doncaster hit back immediately after the break through a Matt Gibson penalty corner.

Lifted by the goal, the visitors raised their game and Doncaster looked the more likely to score, which they did through another Gibson corner ten minutes later.

Doncaster went in pursuit of the winner but lacked a bit of cohesion in the final third.
