Greyhounds: Lister’s Lonely Boy wins St Leger

LONELY Boy romped to victory in the Yorkshire St Leger final at Stainforth last night to secure a second successive win for trainer Charlie Lister.

Newark-based Lister’s pre-race favourite held off early leader Charleys Noire to claim a memorable victory in front of the Sky Sports cameras.

Legendary trainer Lister also won the main prize last year when Carbarns Tom came home first.

Last night’s victory was the culmination of a fantastic night’s racing at Meadow Court Stadium, broadcast live on satellite television.

Lister said: “I’ve actually won the St Leger three times now, I won it a while ago too.

“I’m pleased with him [Lonely Boy] tonight, he’s come away well and run well.

“The track’s in good condition, it’s brilliant for a place like this to get a crowd in and get a good night’s racing.

“They’re all doggy people round here been round here and it’s great for them to have had a night like this on their doorstep.”
