Why the Doncaster Rovers squad WILL be in on Christmas Day

Calling the Doncaster Rovers squad in on Christmas Day might see Darren Moore labelled Scrooge but upsetting anyone is the last of his concerns.

The Rovers boss has given a business as usual message as he schedules training to complete the final preparations for the trip to Peterborough United on Boxing Day.

“It’s one of those things,” Moore said.

“Even though it’s Christmas time for families and loved ones, for us it’s time to work.

“It’s an important time of the year.

“Things change at clubs with attendances going through the roof because people want to watch a game.

“But for the players it remains the same. It’s just the consistency of playing football.

“We’ll come in on Christmas Day and work as normal.

“Is there a right or wrong way to do it? It’s each to their own.

“It’s important that we try to max out everything for the season ahead. Why you don’t look long term, we’ve got a game the next day and at any other time of the year you’re training.

“Just because it’s Christmas Day, as lovely as the day is, we’ll be in to work to prepare for the game on Boxing Day.”

There has been no Christmas Day training at Rovers for a number of years with both Darren Ferguson and Grant McCann opting against it. McCann had suggested he would change his stance in future following Rovers’ defeat at Fleetwood Town on Boxing Day last year.
