Joe Wright is not making any apologies for being pleased Doncaster Rovers have a blank week3end ahead – and it is nothing to do with tired legs.

Rovers were originally scheduled for a long away trip to Portsmouth on Saturday but the game has been postponed due to Kenny Jackett’s side’s continued involvement in the FA Cup.

It means that Rovers are set for a more low key weekend after a run of three games in seven days and boss Darren Moore plans to give his players a couple of days off.

For centre half Wright, the break could not be more timely.

“It’ll be fairly welcomed – my girlfriend very close to giving birth to my first child!” he said.

“That is something to look forward to.

“In a weird way I was quite pleased that there is no away trip to Portsmouth because that is when she’s due.”

The 24-year-old says he has been warned about the rigours of parenting but is excited about his child’s upcoming birth.

“I think I’m ready as I can be,” he said. “I think I'll probably have a bit of a shock – that's what everyone keeps telling me.

“It’s something I’m looking forward to.

And the sleepless nights ahead?

“To be fair I’ve had them already because she just can’t get comfy and she’s up every two minutes so I think I’m quite prepared for it,” he said.
