All last week we held votes online to determine which of the temporary signings of the last 15 years had made the biggest impression on the club and supporters alike.

And Kane would ultimately triumph after making it to the final against fellow loanee from last season, Mallik Wilks.

The Liverpool midfielder made a tremendous impact on Rovers, particularly in the first half of the campaign as he showed himself to be one of the most complete players seen at the club for some time.

Whether it be through breaking up play with his combative style in the middle of the park or bringing others into play when getting on the front foot, Kane quickly impressed.

And after stating that he was keen to add goals to his game, he duly obliged with a run of six goals in eight matches.

Though not as dominant in the second half of the campaign, Kane was still impressive and played a major role in Rovers’ run to the semi-finals of the League One play-offs.

Such was his contribution that Rovers made a play to bring him back to the Keepmoat this season, despite the change of manager in the summer.

And former Rovers boss Grant McCann - who described Kane as ‘a different class’ while at the Keepmoat - signed the 21-year-old on loan for his new club Hull City in January.

All this made Kane a worthy favourite against strong competition in our quest to whittle down 32 former loanees – those who did not go on to sign permanent deals with the club – and find the fans’ favourite.

He triumphed comfortably in the final, taking 68 per cent of the vote against Wilks, who was loaned from Leeds United and made a similarly considerable impression.

Wilks reached the final after edging out goalkeeper Sam Johnstone, who starred over two spells on loan from Manchester United.

Current loanees Seny Dieng and Niall Ennis both reached the last eight of the competition.
