Where Doncaster Rovers will finish if 'preferred method' is used to decide League One

Reports suggest that the EFL are preparing to cancel the remainder of the 2019/20 for both League One and League Two inside the next week.

According to The Athletic, clubs will then be asked to propose and vote on potential measures to decide the outcome of the campaign.

It is suggested that the method with the greatest support is weighted points per game.

Rather than simply taking an overall points per game total with the number of points achieved so far divided by the number of games, this method calculates specific rates for home and away performance.

It is believed this provides a fairer reflection of performance, taking into account matters such as home advantage.

Doncaster Rovers have ten games left on their fixture list, but only three of those are at home. It is suggested that a general PPG calculation could favour teams in Rovers’ position, where the team have had the opportunity to play more games on home soil.

It is also reported that promotion and relegation will still be carried out. The top three sides from League One would be promoted to the Championship, the bottom three sides relegated to League Two and the top four sides from the fourth tier promoted.
