'When you’ve got that at your disposal, you’ve got to use it' - Darren Moore on Jon Taylor's impact for Doncaster Rovers at MK Dons

Taylor has been forced to be patient in his wait for game time which was restricted to one start and one substitute appearance in the previous six matches.

This was despite the winger’s standing as the club’s second top scorer and assist provider so far this season.

Rovers boss Moore has previously stated that selecting the best options for containing and beating the opposition is his primary driving force when naming his team, with competition for places allowing him greater flexibility.

Having seen Rovers toil through a first half spent largely on the back foot, Moore felt it was right to unleash the 27-year-old with 35 minutes to play and the results were explosive - particularly when Taylor raced clear and cut back for Jacob Ramsey to score the game’s decisive goal.

And he praised the winger for his immediate contribution.

“Tayls played his part,” Moore said. “He gave us that out.

“He really unsettled them and it gave them a different type of problem to deal with.

“When you’ve got that at your disposal, you’ve got to use it.

“I keep saying the games are horses for courses for players and there will be certain games which suit certain players and don’t others.

“Today it was the right type of game with the areas that they left on their left hand side. I felt we could exploit that so I switched Sads [Kieran Sadlier] over and put him on there.

“Tayls came on and gave us fresh impetus for the game with his direct play.

“His aggression and his speed unsettled them. When we had the ball we had a clear out, he gave us that.

“It was the right time to bring him in because we felt there were spaces to operate down the side and the all-important goal came from that.”
