Wright made the surprise shift to full back and performed superbly both defensively and pushing forward.

It is a position he had played only once previously for Rovers - in extra time of the play-off semi-final second leg at Charlton Athletic 18 months ago, prior to Moore’s time at the club.

But the Rovers boss says he was convinced in the summer that Wright was more than capable of stepping into the position if required.

“It was right from pre-season,” Moore said. “We thought, looking at him, that he could do a job in there.

“He’s nimble enough. He’s got good feet, good speed, the size and build that he’s got.

“You saw, he was up against a real tricky customer and he dealt with him defensively.

“But he also gave us a wonderful out. I thought his composure on the ball at times was excellent.

“He can be pleased.

“There’s got to be versatility in the players with the size of the squad and the level of games.

“It’s not just him, there’s many players in the squad that can play different roles and if needs be I’ll call upon them to play different roles for the team.

“We work on these things in training. We don’t just throw them at players overnight. There’s work that goes into it long before things are implemented in a game.”
