'We've given one away' - Disappointed Darren Moore bemoans lack of killer touch in Doncaster Rovers' defeat to Wigan Athletic

Rovers dominated the first half but could not turn positive play into goals and were left to rue their profligacy as Joe Garner’s second half header handed all three points to hosts Wigan.
Moore had been slightly critical of Rovers’ lack of killer touch a week earlier, despite their 4-1 victory over Bristol Rovers.

“It is just setting standards,” he told the Free Press.
“If anyone knows me, they know the standards that I set.
“I thought last week we could have been another three, maybe four goals better to the good.
“And then today, you can see that they’ve only had two attempts on our goal. And I said at half time we should be two or three goals to the good.
“My coaching staff said we could have been four or five to the good!

“And we’ve given one away today.”
Moore admitted he was disappointed with the manner of Wigan’s winning goal as Garner headed home a cross from Viv Solomon-Otabor which appeared to catch goalkeeper Josef Bursik off-guard.
But he pledged to ensure his players will learn from all aspects of the game where they came up short.
“I am disappointed with it, you get the straight answer from me,” he said.

“It’s not a goal that we want to concede. It’s a basic, elementary goal and ultimately it’s taken away the three points from us which is disappointing.
“It’s come early in the season, this type of game and what my players can do, with our help, is learn from this because there are more games like this to come.
“It’s important that we learn from it and put the wrongs from today right in further matches in the future.”
