Belles crashed to a 5-0 reverse at Lincoln in midweek but goals from Hannah McWilliams, Jess Andrew and Nadia Khan saw them return to winning ways on Sunday.

Butler said on social media: “The players should be proud of a tough week, a lot of travelling and some tough games.

“The togetherness of the squad and their mentality to keep pushing each other to become better players is great to see as a staff.”

Belles lost 4-2 at Holwell – known then as Leicester United – in the corresponding fixture last season.

Their 3-0 triumph moved them up to third in the early FAWNL Division One Midlands standings but left Butler feeling his side has got more gears to go through.

"We've come a long way, a lot of credit goes to the girls for their work rate and the standards they set,” he said.

"Last season we'd have begged for a win but now we're getting wins and picking the finer details out of it.

"It's good that we've got to the end of the game and we're asking the girls what they could have done better, they know themselves they can still do better than that.”

Belles host sixth-placed Long Eaton United at Rosssington Main on Sunday (2pm). Entry is £3 and £1 for under 17s.

Wolves top the table with a one hundred per cent winning record from four games.
