James suffered the injury in a 50-50 challenge with Bolton’s Josh Emmanuel just before the break and had to be stretchered off.

Darren Moore revealed the full back has been told to rest for seven to ten days and while delivering a precise time frame for his return will not be possible until then, he expects James to be out for three to four weeks.

“Reece got discharged from hospital earlier on today [Thursday],” Moore said.

“He had a severe laceration on his leg.

“I just thought the medical team dealt with it really well after a coming together of two players.

“It was upsetting scenes at the time but the medical team dealt with it well.

“Reece was in good spirits. I saw him about ten minutes after at half time. He was positive.

“The hospital have been excellent, the staff, and he’s now been discharged to go home and he’ll rest at home for seven to ten days before we can look at it going forward.

“I would say it would be three or four weeks.

“That is provided there are no more complications with it going forward.

“But it’s to be expected.

“The major thing for us, we initially thought it might have been a break but thankfully it wasn’t.

“In other words, we’re lucky that what looked to be a more severe injury was not too bad.

“He is on the road to recovery now and we wish him a speedy recovery.”

Cameron John looks likely to step in at left back, as he has done in several games recently.

“When we’re preparing for games I say to the lads that everyone has to prepare because in this game you just never know when you’re going to get called upon,” Moore said.

“I thought Cameron stepped into there the other night and it was like water off a duck’s back for him.

“It’s not a position he’s alien to.”
