The full back has been out of action since February 11 when he suffered a severe laceration to his shin in the clash against Bolton Wanderers.

But he has recovered sufficiently to start for the U23s in their Premier League Cup knockout tie against West Bromwich Albion.

“We’ve got really pleasing news that Reece James will join up with the U23s squad for tomorrow night’s game,” boss Darren Moore said.

“He’ll play in that one, which is great for him and great for us for him to participate in the game.

“Apart from no adverse reactions we’ll have him back in for next week and back in contention.”

James was ordered to rest up for two weeks after being discharged from hospital as the wound healed and returned to training this week.

“Credit to him, he’s a quick healer,” Moore said.

“And credit to our medical team and the hospital staff here in Doncaster.

“Reece is full of praise for them and the medical team for how they looked after him and the operation was successful.

“It means we get him back. Hopefully he’ll get back into some game-related practice and providing he comes through Friday unscathed, we’ll have the bonus of having him back for next week.”

Rovers have no fresh injury worries ahead of Saturday’s trip to MK Dons.
