But it was the old guard who grabbed the goals in a 3-2 win behind-closed-doors at Glanford Park.

Brad Halliday, Ben Whiteman and Tom Anderson were all on target as Darren Moore’s players began the process of shaking off five months worth of ring rust with the new campaign just three weeks away.

Moore fielded two different sides in each half, with only goalkeeper Louis Jones playing in both periods.

One trialist featured as a forward in the first half, along with James Coppinger, Jon Taylor and Jason Lokilo in support.

And three more joined the fray in the second period, as Moore assessed his options in the free agent market.

After a goalless first period, Rovers went ahead early in the second half. Fejiri Okenabirhie held up the ball superbly and laid off to Halliday who smashed a curling effort home with the outside of his boot.

Abobaker Eisa levelled for the hosts - who featured former Rovers forward Alfie Beestin - after taking a good touch and clipping into the bottom corner.

Skipper Whiteman picked up the ball just outside the box, turned and fired into the far corner to restore Rovers’ advantage.

But Charlie Banks powered in a header at the back post from a corner to again equalise for Iron.

Anderson secured the win in the dying stages with a fine first time side footed effort from a corner.
