Doncaster Rovers must wait until England’s under-20 side return from Turkey to see if they can orchestrate a move for Everton’s John Lundstram.
The 19-year old, who made 14 appearances for Rovers in League One last season, is currently on international duty at the European Championships.
The delay could be as long as another two to three weeks, should England’s young guns reach the final. It is thought Rovers are keen on bringing back the midfielder to the Keepmoat, most probably on a half or full-season loan.
Elsewhere, Rovers face competition from Championship rivals Sheffield Wednesday for the signature of Jose Baxter.
Baxter recently signed an extension to his contract at current club Oldham, but a chance to link up with Dickov again at Rovers could tempt the youngster into departing.
The Owls are thought to be running the rule over the striker, who started his career at Everton.
