The full back has been forced to wait for his opportunity in the side this season but was handed a start in Saturday’s win over Lincoln City.

With a packed calendar due to the condensed campaign, Amos always expected he would get his chance to play sooner rather than later.

“It’s important not to sulk if you are left out for three or four games,” he told the Free Press.

“There’s 46 games in a season just in the league and we’re not even into the third month of the season yet.

“There’s so many games to be part of and it’s important not to be in your shell and just be yourself every day.

“Your chance will come.

“I’ve got a shirt now and I want to keep it away from everyone but I’m not going to be disheartened if the manager changes it.

“I’m just going to have to keep working harder and prove that I should be in the starting XI.

“It’s important for everyone to work together and off the pitch is just a massive bonus for us.

“All the lads, the togetherness off the pitch and in training that fans don’t see is second to none.

“It’s fantastic.”

Amos says the togetherness in the group means there is a determination not to let the side down in tough moments.

“It’s not an individual sport,” he said. “In a team, we want to do so well and we’re capable of doing so well.

“To get that off the pitch balance as well as the on the pitch balance is spot on. We have a laugh but we know when to work.

“That’s just a massive thing that the gaffer and Ben Whiteman and all the lads strive for.

“In the last five minutes when crosses are coming in and you’re heading them away, you’re not just doing it for yourself, you’re doing it for the team, the gaffer, staff, everybody, the fans as well.

“It’s a shame that they’re not able to come but hopefully when the new year comes we can crack on into 2021 with the fans back and give them the season they deserve.”
