The full back wants retribution for the Black Cats beating Rovers at the Keepmoat in December and to get his side back to winning ways.

But he also wants to send his friends and family home happy by collecting the scalp of Sunderland.

The Redcar native is surrounded in his life by Middlesbrough supporters - all of whom want nothing more than to see him get the better of one of their north east rivals.

“All my friends and family will be there and I can’t wait for it,” Halliday said

“Most of them are Middlesbrough supporters so they will want us to get one over on them.

“Sunderland are one of the top teams in the league, there’s a few similar to them, but I think we’re a match for any team in the league.

“They beat us a few weeks in the league and we’d like to get some revenge.”

Sunderland triumphed 2-1 at the Keepmoat on December 29, sparking a run which has seen them win three and draw one of their subsequent matches.

It was a tight game and Halliday says it was a defeat that was tough to accept.

He said: “When I look back on it it was a difficult one to swallow.

“I don’t think we deserved to get beat but we did so we’re looking to get one back on them.

“It will be a difficult game for us but we’re looking forward to it.”
