'There's never been a better time at this club to break through' - Gary McSheffrey urges U23s to make their mark at Doncaster Rovers
Gary McSheffrey feels there are still some members of the Doncaster Rovers development squad yet to realise they have a genuine opportunity at senior level.
Darren Moore has named several U23 players in his matchday squads this season with the likes of Danny Amos and Max Watters receiving game time.
And development squad coach McSheffrey says the pathway has been cleared for youngsters to push on - as long as they continue to improve.
“Every time the manager speaks you hear him talking about those fine details,” he said.
“If they want to step into his team they are the ones they have to eradicate from their game.
“There’s never been a better time at this club to go in and stamp your authority on an U23 game and get in the manager and Jamie’s vision.
“A few still haven’t grasped it I don’t think.
“But there are opportunities there to get on the bench initially and then be that first one to come off the subs’ bench.
“Some of them have been doing well but I still think there is loads of room for improvement.”
