'The solution will not be money orientated' - Details on Doncaster Rovers' remaining playing budget as they enter final few days of transfer window

Doncaster Rovers will need to ‘think imaginatively’ if they are to sign any more players before the transfer window closes on Friday.

That is the verdict of chief executive Gavin Baldwin who revealed the vast majority of the playing budget has already been used.

Boss Darren Moore has previously stated his desire to add further options to his squad, with a midfielder being his top priority.

Baldwin has backed Moore and talent identification manager Adam Henshall to find ways in which deals could be done despite a lack of funds.

“With Adam leading the recruitment alongside Darren, we’ve got a team that is really imaginative and comes up with solutions,” he told the Free Press.

“Despite the fact we are getting to the bottom of the budget pot, the imagination of Adam and Darren, and the influence Darren has got, means we can still pull things out of the bag.

“It helps them to continue trading when money is not plentiful.

“Darren is delighted with his squad and how they are progressing together.

“But if an opportunity comes along, he will try to jump on it.

“I suppose from my point of view, the solution will not be money orientated, it will have to be imaginative.

“There aren’t funds there to go and pay money for a player to come in.”

Baldwin pointed to the example of the recent signing of Charlie Seaman as a way in which the club can think creatively.

Seaman signed a one-year deal for Rovers and was immediately loaned out to National League South side Maidstone United to gain senior experience.

“Charlie joined us on a one year deal and we’ve got the option of a second,” Baldwin said.

“But to give him the experience so he’s first team ready he’s gone to Maidstone on a season-long loan, with us having a call back on it.

“Should Brad [Halliday] break down for instance, we can call him back.

“Darren highly rates Charlie but recognises that he wouldn’t start straight away. It would have done him no good signing and sitting watching the games every week.

“Equally, he wants to secure competition for places for next season.

“It was a deal that worked for us in all aspects.”
