'Signing coup' John Bostock can fulfil potential at Doncaster Rovers according to Darren Moore

Bostock was rated as one of the hottest prospects in the country after making his debut for Crystal Palace at the age of 15 and switching to Tottenham Hotspur at 16.

His career has not panned out as many would have predicted, having played for 13 clubs in 13 years.

But, at 29, Bostock has enough time to ensure his best years are yet to come, according to his new manager.

“He has undoubtedly ability and we knew that when he was a youngster,” Moore said. “But sometimes expectation is a big thing.

“He was talked of as being a really top youngster, so the expectation was there from the start.

“Timing can be a factor as well. The timing can just be all wrong.

“The thing I would echo is that the age he is now, the ambitions and the attributes that he’s got, there is still more than enough time to display them.

“What better place to display them here, than the platform we have given him at Doncaster Rovers.”

Moore is confident the signing of Bostock will prove to be a transfer coup for Rovers.

The midfielder yesterday signed an 18 month deal with Rovers, marking his return to English football after a successful few years on the continent in Belgium and France.

While he has yet to match the potential he showed in his teens, Bostock could prove to be a superb acquisition for Rovers according to Moore - and not just for his ability on the pitch.

“If it was to go well and he finds his rhythm, to get someone of that ability, is a good one fo us,” Moore said. “But also his experience as well.

“His experience to be with the younger players, like Taylor Richards, Matt Smith, Elliot Simoes, Cam John - all of the young ones, to have someone of that ilk in the dressing room that can share with them and nurture them along the way, is a good addition.”
