Sheffield and Halllamshire County FA windfall to help launch 84 new teams and train 50 new coaches

Local grassroots football has received a massive boost with the news that 84 new teams will be formed and 50 new coaches trained after a grants windfall.

Sheffield and Hallamshire County FA clubs have been awarded £126,000 under the ‘Grow the Game’ scheme.

County development manager Jack Matthews said he was delighted local football in the region was to benefit from the grants under from the Football Foundation, the country’s largest sports charity.

The grants will see the creation of 84 new teams over the next two seasons as well as over 50 coaches trained to deliver age apppropriate coaching.

Awards have been allocated to have a positive impact on new teams in the region, particularly male Under-15s, girls, women and disability, both male and female.

A major benefactor are Penistone Church FC, who have been awarded £4,500 towards two new female youth teams and an adult male team.

Matthews said: “The system provides grants of up to £1,500 for the creation of new football teams and coaching qualifications with money provided by the Premier League and the FA.

“The County FA has worked closely with the clubs over their applications - and what a result we have had.

“The funding provides the opportunity for all County FAs to have a good look at how they can help create and develop new teams to enable more people to play and enjoy football.”
