Rossington Main and Armthorpe Welfare suffer heavy defeats on return to action

Rossington Main and Armthorpe Welfare both suffered heavy defeats as they returned to action on Saturday.

Ben Hunter’s Rossington side, who began the day in fifth position in NCEL Division One, suffered a disappointing 5-2 defeat at mid-table Swallownest.

Swallownest were already 3-0 up when Jordan Buckham curled home a freekick in the 45th minute and the home side scored twice more after the break before Tyla Bell’s last gasp consolation effort.

Armthorpe went down 5-1 at home to promotion contenders Winterton Rangers in Lee Morris’s first game in charge of the Church Street club.

Harry Brown was on target for Welfare, who lie 15th in Division One.

Armthorpe host Rossington on Boxing Day (1pm).
