Watters has enjoyed an incredibly productive run since joining Crawley Town in October following his release by Rovers, and is currently the leading goalscorer in English football with 12 goals.

And that has reportedly caught the attention of top flight outfits who are considering making a move for the 21-year-old in January.

West Bromwich Albion and Championship side Watford have sent scouts to watch Watters in action, according to the Daily Mail. There is also understood to have been interest from League One and Belgium.

Rovers opted to release Watters in the summer as part of the disbanding of the club’s U23s group due to the financial pressures of the Covid-19 pandemic.

He was signed by then-boss Darren Ferguson from Ashford United in the summer of 2018 and went on to make six appearances for Rovers, all substitute appearances and all last season.

Crawley are expected to activate a clause in Watters’ contract which will extend his deal until the summer of 2022, giving them a stronger hand if clubs show an interest.

It has been speculated that the League Two side could hold out for around £1million for the forward following his impressive start to the season.

His goals have come in only 14 matches, with four of those appearances coming off the bench, which has given him comfortably the best goals to minutes ratio in the top four divisions of English football.
