A penalty shootout was needed to decide the winners as legends from Doncaster Rovers and Sheffield Wednesday clashed in a charity game which signalled the return of supporters for live football at the Keepmoat.

The Owls triumphed from the spot in the game which raised tens of thousands of pounds for Doncaster-based charity Eve Merton Dreams Trust. Recap the events of the game below.

Marcus Tudgay drills through the legs of Rovers keeper Craig Evans. The striker was in acres of space when he was fund by Lee Pearson and smashed a low shot.

Paul Green puts Rovers ahead. He latched onto a fine through ball and beat Des Walker for pace before firing a shot which Wednesday keeper Tom Crosby could not keep out.

Colin Cramb fires in from the spot for Rovers to level up the game.

Alan Knowles limps off for Doncaster Rovers to be replaced by Lee Barker.

Marcus Tudgay sees his route to goal blocked and plays out wide to Lee Pearson who looks to curl a first time effort into the far corner only for Rovers keeper Craig Evans to pull off an impressive save.

Marcus Tudgay strikes a bouncing ball first time and it loops up off a defender’s leg and over Rovers keeper Craig Evans to give Wednesday the lead.

Paul Green looked all the world set to give Rovers the lead when he popped up in the middle of the box to meet a decent cross but Wednesday keeper Tom Crosby pulled off an excellent save.
