5pm Not great at all

A poor game by whatever means you measure it. In entertainment terms it was a real dud.

From a Rovers perspective, they lacked fluidity throughout and struggled to get to grips of things in what was a scrappy affair from start to finish.

They did not do themselves many favours at times with a real lack of quality and a disappointingly poor tempo.

It suited Northampton’s game plan throughout and they will certainly be pleased to have come through it unscathed.

Another one to forget for Rovers. They can’t afford many more.

FOUR minutes

Louis Jones gets behind a free kick from Ryan Watson really well.

Madger Gomes replaces Matt Smith

Taylor Richards curls wide from 20 yards

68min Audacious from Jones

Louis Jones Cryuff turn? Why not. He draws in the chasing striker and leaves him for dead. Audacious. Effective.

And it’s a Northampton man who keeps the ball out of the Rovers net.

A corner is delivered in which is threatening the goal after going through a crowd of bodies but it hits Ryan Watson on the line and bounces clear.

A big let off for Rovers

59min Another effort

A quick counter from Rovers and another opportunity. Richards releases James down the left. He exchanges passes with Simoes and fires on goal but there is no sting on the shot.

It has definitely been better from Rovers at the start of the second half but that quality touch is still lacking.

Elliot Simoes cuts in from the left and fires a shot well wide from the corner of the box

James Coppinger volleys on goal after a lay off from Fejiri Okenabirhie.

It was a move again with the ball going through players quickly and on that front, it’s a bright start to the half.

James Coppinger replaces Cameron John

Rovers look more like a 4-1-4-1 following the switch,

4.05pm Back underway

A lack of quality or the correct energy

That was a slog of a first half for Rovers who have struggled to get into any sort of groove in attacking terms. They’ve not moved the ball well and lack a pace to their play this game is crying out for. The two chances they have created came after moving the ball quickly and with willing runners that opened up a Northampton side who are more than happy to sit in and create brick walls.

At the other end, Louis Jones has had nothing to do but there have been a few nervy moments in defence. It is not comfortable at all and could easily go either way.
