Bessacarr Red got their U11 Division One Cup quest off to the best possible start after coming from behind to beat Wheatley Wanderers Blue.
Bessacarr are looking to finish the season on a high note in the revamped competition which begins with a group format.
But it was Wheatley who had the edge in a competitive first half and carried a slender lead into the break.
Jackson Cooper picked the ball up on the left, beat his man to go one-on-one and slipped the ball under Joseph Barker to open the scoring.
A strong performance from stand-in keeper George Thompson kept Wheatley in front with some superb saves.
Bessacarr pushed hard for the equaliser in the second half and got their reward. Thompson produced a fine stop to deny Joshua Hurst but Oliver Mugglestone reacted quickest to the rebound to draw his side level.
Hurst rattled the bar as Bessacarr pushed for a winner but as time ticked by a stalemate looked most likely.
However, Hurst and his side finally got their reward in the last 15 minutes.
It took an excellent save from Barker for Bessacarr to hold onto their lead but they held on to secure the important first win.
