Howard Webb will referee this month’s Crown Hotel Bawtry Doncaster Business Cup.
And the former Premier League official has warned this year’s participants: ‘I’m the boss!’
Businessmen from across the borough will descend on the Keepmoat Stadium on Saturday, July 18 (3pm) for the fifth annual football fundraiser.
It is hoped the event will raise £15,000 for five local charities.
“I’m delighted to be back in South Yorkshire refereeing the Crown Hotel Doncaster Business Cup,” said Rotherham-born Webb, who in 2010 became the first referee to take charge of the Champions League final and World Cup final in the same year.
“To be part of a match that includes so many local businesses, supporting some fantastic local charities, is amazing.
“But the players had best be on their best behaviour. I’ll be bringing my cards with me, just in case!”
Team Plant and Team Van Steen have both been training on a weekly basis at Doncaster Rovers’ Cantley Park training ground in preparation for the big day.
Captain Alexander Van Steen says news of Webb’s appointment has ramped up the excitement and anticipation among everyone involved.
“It’s amazing to have Howard Webb involved,” he said.
“To have a referee of his calibre, a World Cup Final referee, shows just how much the Crown Hotel Bawtry Doncaster Business Cup has grown and that’s testament to David Plant and everyone else who has been involved over the last five years.
“The players are buzzing from the news and it’s all going to add to the atmosphere on the day.”
Webb has also donated a signed Premier League football for auction.
Tickets for the Doncaster Business Cup are now available to buy at the Keepmoat Stadium ticket office, priced £5 adults, £3 children.
