Doncaster Belles: Hobbs’ knowledge is spot-on for FAWSL2 leaders

Doncaster Belles keeper Nicola Hobbs admits she relied on knowledge of her former teammates after saving a penalty in her side’s 1-1 draw with previous club Everton at the weekend.

Hobbs kept out Everton captain Michelle Hinnigan’s spot-kick just minutes after Sue Smith had given the Belles the lead, before Kelly Jones equalised after the break.

The Belles stopper made a number of key saves as Doncaster went top of FAWSL2 but she believes a point was a fair result.

“I don’t know why they picked someone who I used to play with to take the penalty to be honest,” she said.

“I remembered where she used to put them and put that into practice here.

“It was a very busy game for me, but I expected it to be.

“Playing away from home, against a tough team – we could have done better but we’ll take that point.

“I think it was a fair result,” she added.

“It felt like ping-pong at times but I think if we carry on playing the way we have been playing, this point will be an important one.”

Top of the table Belles welcome Aston Villa to the Keepmoat Stadium on Saturday (6.30pm) when they will aim to maintain their unbeaten record.
