In-form Courtney Sweetman-Kirk is relishing the chance to rub shoulders with the very best when Doncaster Rovers Belles host Manchester City in the FA WSL Continental Tyres Cup tonight (7.45pm).
Sweetman-Kirk has hit 12 goals in 11 league games this term to help the Belles move to the top of FA WSL 2, including a hat trick against Oxford on Sunday.
Their next challenge is to take on Continental Tyres Cup holders City and their plethora of England internationals.
The teams have already met this season with City triumphing 3-1 in the SSE Women’s FA Cup but, four months on, Sweetman-Kirk cannot wait to go again.
“It will be a great test for us because we have ambitions to be playing against sides like City every week next season,” she said.
“We played them in the FA Cup at the start of the season and we ran them quite close.
“They have Steph (Houghton), the captain, and the likes of Toni (Duggan) but they have got great young players like Nikita Parris, who can cause threats as well.
“For me it is exciting to see where I’m at, trying to compete against those top players.
“It is going to be exciting. Hopefully we will get a good crowd down there and we always raise our game against the big teams.
“We are playing well at the moment and we are confident. We know that on our day, we can give anyone a good game.”
