Doncaster Rovers Belles have called a press conference to announce a “major sponsorship deal” with a big supporter who offered help during their FA appeal.
The club, who face life in FAWSL2 next season following their high profile FA ‘relegation’, have teamed up with BPP University who will offer substantial investment opportunities.
The London-based private University, which educates around a third of all new entrants into the legal profession, is headed by its principal Carl Lygo.
Lygo is a Doncaster-born leading barrister, who is also chief executive of BPP Holdings, and was heavily involved in Belles’ demotion appeal this year.
He and other Doncaster-based solicitors offered the club free legal advice during the process which saw the FA dismiss Belles’ appeal primarily because they did not have first priority over use of the Keepmoat Stadium.
Lygo said: “What’s exciting about this relationship is that it is more than just money sponsorship.
“BPP Professional Education educates some of the UK’s leading postgraduate students for the world of business, finance, law and health.
“By providing internships with the Doncaster Belles for those students who are heading to the world’s leading companies we will help to strengthen the ‘business back office’ of the Doncaster Belles.
“By also providing scholarships to the players of the Doncaster Belles, we hope the Belles can attract the very best sports women and they can develop their future careers beyond the world of football.
“Together we can create a long-term sustainable model for the Doncaster Belles.”
Belles representatives, Lygo and other club backers are holding the conference at the Keepmoat Stadium to discuss the sponsorship.
The conference comes prior to Belles’ match tonight against reigning FAWSL champions and current FA Women’s Cup winners Arsenal. Kick-off at the Keepmoat is 7.45pm.
