Thorne Colliery got their Abacus Lighting Central Midlands League North Division campaign off to a flying start with a 6-1 win over defending champions Bilsthorpe.
Jonathan Lugton and Darren Fell both scored twice for the Doncaster side, who endured a disappointing campaign last season, with Dean Cuttell and Glen Hookway also chipping in.
It was Bilshorpe’s second defeat in as many games against a Doncaster side in four days – they slumped to a 3-0 midweek defeat against Brodsworth Welfare at the Welfare Ground.
Liam Taylor bagged a brace for the home side with Rod Pursehouse also getting off the mark at the first attempt.
The two local rivals are due to cross swords at The Welfare Ground on Saturday.
There was more joy for a Doncaster club at the weekend with Askern picking up a 5-1 win away to last season’s bottom club Welbeck Welfare in their opening game.
All the goals came in the first half with Gareth Collinson (2), Jason Kearsley, Michael Attard and Alex Rennie (penalty) doing the damage for Askern who found the home side a tougher nut to crack in the second.
A Mick Wibberley brace secured Harworth Colliery’s second string a point in a 2-2 draw in their opening Reserve Division clash at Swanwick.
