All is not Wel for struggling Armthorpe

ARMTHORPE Welfare saw their winless run stretched to five matches in the Premier Division as they went down 3-2 at Heanor Town, writes Paul Webster.

Leo Fortune-West’s side were on the back foot from the off after conceding twice in the opening four minutes.

Nathan Benger drilled home from 12 yards to give Town the lead after two minutes while Graham Well slotted home two minutes later as Heanor capitalised on a defensive error.

Reece Ricarda smashed home from the edge of the box to narrow the gap and levelled the match after the break after latching onto a long clearance.

But parity lasted only four minutes as Benger grabbed his second to give Heanor a lead they would not relinquish.

Welfare will look to escape their league woes as they host Squires Gate in the second qualifying round of the FA Vase.

Also in Vase action this weekend are Askern Villa who welcome AFC Liverpool while Maltby Main host AFC Emley.

Villa were without a game last weekend in Division One but Maltby saw another cup run come to an abrupt halt.

Main lost 8-1 at Evo-Stick League side Curzon Ashton in the FA Cup first qualifying round.

Craig Gladwin put Main on terms in the ninth minute but Curzon were 3-1 up at the break before running riot in the second half.

Rossington Main had a day to forget in Division One with goalkeeper Lee Appleby sent off after 20 minutes before they lost 5-0 at home to Teversal.

Appleby was shown a straight red after being adjudged to have brought down a Teversal forward.

Skipper David Holvey took over between the sticks where his first job was to pick the ball out of the net after Dave Cockerill scored the resulting spot kick.

Rossington were always up against it but went into the break just 2-0 down after Kristian Whitcombe scored on 28 minutes.

However, Teversal went clear in the second half with Cockerill adding another alongside efforts from Sean Dickinson and Daniel Wood.

Saturday’s fixtures (all 3pm): FA Vase Second Qualifying Round: Armthorpe Welfare v Squires Gate; Askern Villa v AFC Liverpool; Maltby Main v AFC Emley.
