Lewis brace helps Academy stay out in front

IT is still looking like a two-horse title race in Division Three of the Doncaster and District Sunday Alliance League with the top two both getting 2012 off to a winning start.

Leaders Balby Academy of Sport beat fifth-placed Grove Carvery 4-0 with Jordan Lewis bagged a brace for the winners with Kieron Ferguson and Simon Manterfield also netting, and second-placed Leger Lions beat mid-table Ingram Arms 1-0.

Fourth-placed Horse & Groom Town (Nathan Blenkinsop, Reece Pegden) lost ground after going down by the odd goal in five at home to Tank, for whom Lee Fretwell, Paul Burton and Jimmy Falkiner netted.

Waggies picked up only their second league win of the season, beating bottom club Hatfield Chace 3-2.

Stephen Mitchell claimed two of the Waggies’ goals with Ryan Curtis also chipping in. Damien Higgins scored both Hatfield goals.

High-flying Maltings were held 1-1 at White Hart Colts (Andrew Harriman).

Runaway Division Four leaders Catholic Club racked up their 12th win in as many games, routing The Glassmaker 11-2.

Second-placed Hatfield Woodhouse also had their shooting boots on, beating bottom club Bay Horse 7-1.

Third-placed FC Cumberland (Chris Atkins, John Atkins) beat Hesley 2-1.

Karl Lang was Rossington United’s hat-trick hero in the 7-1 win over Harvester with Luke Wilkinson chipping in with a double. Philip Pendabury and Nathan Fraser completed the scoring.

Second-bottom Balby Rovers (Gavin Smith, Mark Barkham) lost 4-2 at home to Campsall.

Vault remain three points clear at the top of Division Five after receiving a walkover a bottom club New Railway Tavern.

Second-placed Willapoons, who have four games in hand, were never troubled by lowly FC Ivanhoe as they coasted to a 7-2 win.

Paul Kostyszyn led the way with a hat-trick with Michael Simmonite, Dean Cutttle, Billy Kirkham and Robert Hannam also scoring.

Mid-table Walton Wanderers romped to a 9-0 win at Balby Rec while Inter Debs beat Rossington Poacher 4-0.

M25 crashed to an 8-0 defeat at third-placed Crown - Peter Brown (3), Marcus Butler, Jason Hadwin (2) and Gareth Davies doing the damage.
