Askern Villa’s fate is now in the hands of the decision makers after three successive home defeats over the past week meant they will finish bottom of NCEL Division One, writes Paul Webster.

Villa lost 4-0 and then 4-2 against Albion Sports and Appleby Frodingham, with Gary Smith and Michael Attard scoring Askern’s first goals in seven games.

They also lost 4-0 to Selby Town at the weekend, leaving them cut adrift at the basement.

The NCEL announced at the start of the season that the team finishing bottom would be relegated. However, the final decision rests with the FA Leagues Committee.

Rossington Main ended a run of three defeats on the spin with a 1-1 draw against Appleby Frodingham in an entertaining curtain closer at Oxford Street.

Thomas Spall give Frodingham a 17th minute lead from the penalty spot but it was cancelled out by Danny Taylor’s close range finish just before the hour mark.

Armthorpe Welfare sit precariously just a point above the Premier Division drop zone after a 2-0 home defeat to Thackley.

They must beat Glasshoughton Welfare at home on Saturday to guarantee their survival.

Maltby Main closed their season with a rather disappointing 5-2 defeat at relegation threatened Lincoln Moorland Railway.

Oliver Graham and Brain Cusworth netted for the Miners.
