A TEAM of Liverpool legends were given something of a rude awakening when they turned up in Doncaster for a special friendly match on Sunday.
Former Reds star Jan Molby agreed to bring a team of Anfield heroes to the town to face Doncaster & District Alliance Premier Division champions Atletico Parklands.
He fulfilled his promise at the weekend - but he probably did not expect the Doncaster Sunday League side to run out 5-1 winners!
Goals from Atletico boss Tony Gregory (2), Luke Atkinson, Rob Allan and Luke Smithson gave Parklands a memorable victory to cap off of a fine season.
Gregory said: “It was a fantastic experience for all of our players to be on the same pitch as the likes of Jan Molby, Phil Neal, Mark Wright, John Wark, Jason McAteer, Mike Marsh and Michael Thomas.
“Molby, Marsh and Wark were the best for Liverpool.
“They’ve still got a great touch, just their legs are fading a bit now.
“The wet weather spoilt the day slightly but we still got a crowd of more than 300 at Yorkshire Main.”
Parklands won the Premier Division title for the third time in their 22-year history this season.
