That resolve has been tested somewhat during the most intense of seasons - and particularly at Doncaster Rovers who are about to play their third match in only six days.

Winger Josh Sims insists the enjoyment factor has not diminished at all but admits the busy calendar has presented new challenges as well as requiring a different focus between games.

And he says it puts an even greater importance than normal on doing the right things away from the training grounds.

“When you come together on a matchday it’s a team game but when you’re away from that you need to be really switched on,” he said.

“You need to be eating the right food, drinking the right things, and making sure you’re as fit as you can be.

“It’s hard to go into games at 100 per cent when there’s this many in quick succession but you need to be as close to 100 per cent as you can be.

“You can’t be physically at your optimum every single time, especially when you have three games in a week.

“But you can’t leave anything to chance.

“You have to make sure you’re putting the right things in your body.

“When there’s this many games, everyone in the squad is going to be used.

“If you’re not starting games and you’re on the bench, you need to think that you’ll be starting the next game and be ready for that.”

Sims since enjoyment of playing is vital during busy runs because a positive mindset can help boost diminishing energy levels.

“At the moment I am enjoying it,” he said.

“I think it helps when you’re enjoying it and playing regular football.

There’s something in it that spurs you on and you get that extra bit of fitness that you maybe lack when you’re not confident or not playing regular football. Sometimes that little percentage is not there for you.

“But when you’re enjoying it you have that extra thing inside of you to keep going.”
