Josef Bursik earns another England U21 - what it means for Doncaster Rovers' clash with Oxford United

The on loan Stoke City goalkeeper has been named as part of Aidy Boothroyd’s squad for the European Championship qualifiers against Andorra and Albania.

With Matt Smith selected for senior Wales duty and Danny Amos expected to receive a final call up for Northern Ireland U21s, it is understood that Rovers will exercise the option to postpone next Saturday’s clash with Oxford United.

The situation has been exacerbated by the need for Darren Moore and coaches Jamie Smith and Paul Gerrard to self-isolate for 14 days after coming into contact with a Covid-19 case.

Smith and Bursik will miss Rovers’ Papa John’s Trophy clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers U23s on Tuesday. Amos’ status for the game is set to be confirmed.

This is the third successive call-up for the U21s for Bursik but he has yet to win his first cap.

England U21s host Andorra at Molineux on Friday, November 13, before welcoming Albania the following Tuesday.

Smith - who has 11 senior caps already - could potentially be part of three matches for Wales during this international break.

Wales host the United States in a friendly on November 12 before two home Nations League matches against Republic of Ireland and Finland.

Northern Ireland U21s visit Ukraine on Tuesday, November 17. This would be Amos’ last call-up for the age group.
