The Belgian is determined to get back to full fitness after struggling with a niggle last month, as he looks to push himself towards regular starts for the club.

And while the postponement of the trip to Oxford United due to international call-ups saw the squad granted a weekend off, Lokilo had plans to keep himself ticking over.

“You always want to play but we can’t so I’m just going to do my homework,” he said.

“It’s just a bit of core strength, stretching - anything I can do to stay sharp mentally and physically.

“I have always done it. It helps to avoid injuries. Sometimes you can’t really affect it when you get injured but I try to do everything possible to not get injured.”

The 22-year-old has started only once in the league so far this season and he feels his progress has been hampered by the injury he picked up in that game against Bristol Rovers.

“It is harder to come back on your level fitness wise,” he said.

“I’ve tried to work hard and stay around the team. Every time I get an opportunity, I try to do well.

“I try to work hard all the time and help the team.

“I know you can go through difficult times but I try to stay positive and work hard in training until I get my chance.

“Every time I get my chance I try to do well and be productive.

“Now the main focus for me is to get back to my fitness level and hopefully I will get more chances.”

The winger feels he benefited from starting last week’s Papa John’s Trophy tie against Wolverhampton Wanderers U21s though admitted he tired in the second half.

Lokilo signed a one-year deal with Rovers in the summer and is looking to improve his impact on matches as he attempts to truly kick-start his senior career.

“As a forward you want to score goals and make assists,” he said.

“That’s what I want to improve on this season and play as many games as possible.”
