Isle rivals all set to clash for the third time

Epworth Town Reserves and Westwoodside Rangers are gearing up for their third meeting already this season, with the local rivalry between the sides as fiercely competitive as ever.

Having met in the Johnsons Transport Ironstone Cup in September, with Westwoodside coming out on top of a nine-goal thriller, 6-3, and with Town winning 3-0 in the league meeting a month later, the scene is set for this weekend’s clash in the Ironstone Cup return fixture.

Epworth player/manager Tom Appleby is hoping his side’s 7-1 win at the weekend against Midtown United - their eighth win out of eight in the league so far this season - will prepare his side for this weekend’s clash.

“It was a great result on Saturday,” said Appleby.

“Neil Jones scored a very out of character hat trick, Stuart Rae Ritchie and Chris McCormick scored two each.

“Our goalkeeper Chris Stanley’s clean sheet was only wiped away due to a defensive lapse. Other than that, it was a good solid win which we needed ahead of a massive local derby at Westwoodside on Saturday.”

Westwoodside are also in impressive form with a current four match unbeaten streak in all competitions.
