Lawlor has found game time at senior level hard to come by since September, with Seny Dieng taking the starting spot in Darren Moore’s side.

He switches to Rovers’ League Two neighbours for the remainder of the campaign in a bid for regular football as he prepares to enter the final year of his contract at the Keepmoat.

Rovers have a 24-hour recall clause on the loan, enabling them to bring the 25-year-old back if there is an injury to either Dieng or Louis Jones.

"Ian needs game time so this is an opportunity for him to go and look to get some minutes under his belt, which is important to keep him ticking over and keep him sharp,” Rovers boss Moore said.

"We have a recall clause so can bring him back if needed.

“He has had to be patient this season but he is a big part of our plans and we feel this is a loan which will benefit him and us."

Lawlor started the first seven matches of the League One season for Rovers but has only featured in the Leasing.com Trophy since.

In total he has made 85 senior appearances for Rovers.
